Three Years and A LOT of Cups of Coffee Later
I bought this coffee maker in 2022 to replace my Keurig because I learned that conventional coffee is among the most heavily chemically treated foods in the world and at the time Keurig did not offer any organic coffee options and the plastic pods can be toxic because they can release chemicals into your coffee. It’s been three years since I made the switch and I haven’t looked back. Not only am I making a less expensive, healthier cup of coffee, but I have a lot more flexibility with the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System. We have used this coffee maker practically every day since we bought it and it works like a dream. It’s easy to clean and makes a great cup of coffee. There are only two things that could make this coffee maker any better. The first would be if the frother heated the milk during frothing (I had to buy a separate frother for that). The second would be if there was a built in coffee grinder, as I like to grind my own coffee to ensure the freshest tasting coffee.

    Great coffee maker!
This is a terrific coffee maker. I have had several over the years, and my last one was just a basic Mr. coffee because I have never been very impressed with the $50-$70 line of coffee makers.I was in the market for a new one, and decided, well, I’m gonna get a good coffee maker this time. After reading a bunch of reviews, I decided to go with this ninja at 180.00, which to me is a tremendous amount of money for a coffee machine that is not a pressurized cappuccino maker or some thing. One of the decisions I struggled with was whether to get the steel or the glass carafe. The steel carafe was $30 more, and the coffee maker with the steel carafe does not have a heating element for the carafe. The carafe is insulated, and apparently stays warm for three hours or so.I ultimately decided on the glass carafe, because I figured I would want to have a pot of coffee that I could leave on a warmer, and the glass carafe was dishwater safe, unlike the stainless steel one which is recommended to keep out of the dishwasher. If I had to do it over again, I would probably get the steel carafe. The reason is, this coffee maker basically makes one cup at a time when you want to cup of coffee rather than a whole pot. Sure, you can make a half or a whole carafe, but a fresh cup in my opinion is the best. It is kind of like a Keurig, but I think the coffee tastes better out of this. This requires no pods either.Anyway, that’s what I’ve been doing with it, and liking that a lot. I certainly can make a pot, but rather, I use my big coffee cup, and fill up to the extra large travel size which is a nice big cup of coffee. It’s usually all I want, but if I want another one, I will just make another fresh cup.Another feature that I really like is the removable water tank. I just pop it out and fill it up with filtered water out of the refrigerator. The tank is very easy to get in and out.I’ve only had it about a week, but the coffee is delicious, and I’m enjoying learning to use the machine. All in all, it is pretty simple and user friendly, but it does have some nice features that are worth figuring out.I also really enjoy the milk frother. It doesn’t steam, but you don’t need it too, it is much less messy this way, and you can just heat the milk up in the microwave prior to frothing. If you’re on the fence about blowing close to $200 for a coffee maker, but you really like coffee, jump over the fence and pick this up, I’m glad I did.UpdateOK, I have now had it for a couple of weeks, and I absolutely stand by my review. Neither my wife nor I have bought a cup of coffee anywhere and both love it. In addition to regular coffee, I have made the cold brew which is awesome, the “specialty” which is just like a shot of espresso (with a little frothy half-and-half on the top like a latte), and tonight I made hot tea in it for the first time, which was also terrific. If we continue to not buy coffee drinks out of the house, this thing is going to pay for itself relatively quickly and eliminates the waste of cups and lids. I still kind a wish I had gone with the steel carafe. It would be nice to bring the pot of coffee in the living room, but hey, we can all use the steps.

    The perfect tea maker
I have never owned a better tea maker. I’ve had this appliance for over a year now and with only a couple of minor gripes (see cons below), it’s performed perfectly.Pros:- Size selection means I can make everything from a standard size mug of tea to a 20oz large mug all the way up to a full carafe.- Steeping works perfectly. The appliance turns on “drip stop”, fills up the brew basket, waits several minutes and then turns drip stop off and lets the steeped tea drain into your mug/carage. When you’re brewing a size that’s larger than the capacity of the brew basket, it repeats this process, so you don’t end up with something that’s mostly water coming through at the end.- Area under the brew basket is tall enough to fit large travel cups or even the souvenir cups you get from arenas/fairs. This works perfectly for fresh-brewed iced tea – fill up an arena cup with ice, set the tea maker for a medium size cup and just let the fresh hot tea pour in over the ice. The maker has an “over ice” setting, too (where the tea it dispenses isn’t as hot so your ice doesn’t melt as much), that works well, but I prefer just the hot tea over ice.- Brew basket can accommodate loose teas, tea bags, or even better, a combination. One bag of Earl Gray with a bit of dried lavender thrown in comes out great. Mixing teas/herbs for a single cup of tea is nothing that any other automatic tea maker (that I know of) can do.- Cleanup after making a cup/carafe is easy: The brew basket is easy to remove and rinse (it’s dishwasher safe, but I haven’t had to do that many times). The carafe (I’ve got the glass one) is also dishwasher safe.- The removable water reservoir holds enough for a full carafe or quite a few individual cups. It’s really easy to refill.- Visitors who are coffee drinkers have told me that the unit makes good coffee, too.Cons:- I had a problem with the reservoir leaking where it meets the brewer. Ninja customer support was perfect and send me a replacement at no charge (I’d owned the unit for about 6mo at that point). I’m pretty sure the leak was at the seal and since I’ve gotten the replacement, I’ve made sure that I don’t hold the reservoir at an angle when attaching it to the unit. I haven’t seen any sign of leaks since.- My unit has developed a problem of occasionally pushing the brew basket out just a bit when it turns drip stop on or off. Once the basket has been nudged out of position, the brew process stops. I’m not sure, but I think that this might be due to me not pushing the brew basket in as firmly as needed.Unknowns:- I’d had the original base unit for about 6 months and I’ve had the replacement unit for at least 6 more months. In all that time, I haven’t had the unit tell me to run it through a cleaning cycle. So I have no idea how well that process works.Bottom line: To me, this is the *perfect* tea maker. I can have a couple of mugs of hot tea in the morning, switch to a large cup of iced tea for lunch and then go back to mugs of hot in the afternoon. No oversteeping. No pitchers of iced tea in the fridge that may or may not still be good. I get to choose the tea flavor by the cup and not by the carafe, so I can change things up easily throughout the day. I’ve had one interaction with Ninja customer support and they handled my issue perfectly.
