Best Pocket Dictionary, Nice and small
I bought this dictionary as well as Webster’s New World pocket dictionary (both vinyl) before we moved to Ecuador. Webster’s often does not have the word we are looking for but this one almost always does. Also Langenscheidt’s has more examples of using the word in ways you would not expect, and phrases that, in English, contain the word, but not in Spanish (or vice-versa). Eight months later, we were still fighting over the Langenscheidt’s, and Webster’s collects dust, so I just now ordered another Langenscheidt’s. Unfortunately, shipping to Ecuador costs more than the book.Due to the one star review, I am not sure this is the exact one we bought in the US at Barnes and Noble. Same publishing year, but very slightly different cover. I couldn’t find the ISBN inside and it rubbed off the vinyl cover, but I am sure any of theirs would be wonderful. The size of the one we have is much better for pockets than the Webster’s. Nice and small, but lots of help. Also VERY helpful is Barron’s Spanish Verbs. Has conjugations of 300 verbs, but is small enough for a small purse and I would be lost without it.

Good line of dictionaries; need to update the listing; orthography might give some trouble
I bought the Korean dictionary; it’s nice, but the listing on Amazon needs to be updated because this is NOT the edition with blue headwords, as the picture associated with the listing would imply. Can’t technically fault it, though, since the publication date matches the one I got, which is an edition from before Langenscheidt did blue headwords. I really like this line of dictionaries; I own a ton of them for various languages. I will say, for Korean specifically, I’m not a fan of the romanization system they chose to use for this dictionary — they use the McCune–Reischauer system (ㅓ = ŏ, ㅡ = ŭ, etc.); I, and I would wager most people, prefer Revised Romanization (ㅓ= eo, ㅡ = eu, etc.), so if that’s a deal-breaker for you, then I’d stay away. I might get a different one later; this one is fine for reference for now; I have a linguistics background so I’m somewhat used to dealing with different conflicting orthographies and so on, but if someone is working through a textbook that uses RR (as most do) they may have some trouble with a dictionary that uses MR.

    Best pocket dictionary there is!
If you need a pocket dictionary, and I mean pocket dictionary, this is the one to buy. I tested many by looking for an uncommon word, which unfortunately I can’t remember now, and no other pocket dictionary had it. (Even some of the “big/non-pocket dictionaries” didn’t have it.) It has many of the usual perks, like the ordinal numbers, regular numbers, etc., but also a large array of conjugated verbs thay comes in handy. Many so-called “pocket dictionaries” are really to big. This one is a little larger than some of the vey small pocket dictionaries, but worth its slightly larger size because of its large selection of words. You’ll be able to find practically any word you’ll ever need. I often use it in place of my huge bookshelf Spanish/English Oxford dictionary. (I recommend the Oxford dictionary for a bookcase version too. It has a huge selection of words and while one reviewer didn’t like the fact that the words are blue with the defintions black, I think it makes it easier to find the wotds and so did my 4 companions.) If you’re into Spanish in a big way, Barons Spanish verbs, which has 300 fully conjugated verbs is the perfect companion this pocket dictionary.

    Spanish Dictionary
This dictionary was recommended to me by a Spanish speaking friend in Uruguay as one of the best choices for a small portable dictionary. He said it had almost every word he could think of and he still finds it useful in reverse.I like the sturdy cover, easy to read print and great price. I would recommend this. I had considered an electronic dictionary but they were not recommended by several people who had tried them and found them wanting. It was also pointed out that a Spanish speaker would find the paper dictionary easier to use over an electronic one that they were unfamiliar with, if you needed to have a two way conversation.

    Very useful
I have Minjung’s pocket Korean-English/English-Korean dictionary (like most decent East Asian dictionaries, you will probably need to go to an ethnic bookstore to find it) however I find this Langenscheidt to be very useful for beginners who need reinforcement on how pronunciation changes when certain letters are adjacent to each other. The romanization reflects pronounciation instead of mindless transcription of Hangul letters to roman letters. It is quite easy to understand actually and the Hangul is provided next to the romanization. The fonts used are crisp, pleasing and easy on the eyes (unlike the NTC Dictionary which looks like the authors used a typewriter and then had the pages photocopied at a grocery store). But remember this really is a pocket-sized dictionary.

    Very helpful
I have been using this with the Rosetta Stone Spanish version. It has been a very helpful resource. It is also small & compact so I will taking it with me on my next trip to Mexico or Dominican Republic. My brother had recommended the Langenscheidt’s pocket dictionary to me because he had used it previously in a different language & he liked it.

    not for me
I got this dictionary knowing the korean words were ordered by their romanized sounds as opposed to the korean alphabet. I thought this would suit me better since my ability to alphabetize english is faster than my ability to alphabetize korean. after a few weeks of trying to use this as my quick translation dictionary I found it to be more of a hassle than anything. korean is not an easily romanized language, there can be differences between how a word sounds in my head and how it’s written in english, maybe some people are better at this than me but I found myself flipping to the wrong end of the book for a word. im sure with a little practice it can be a very usable dictionary but for me ill stick with my hangul.some good things about this dictionary, its nice and small about 6″x4″x1″ and the romanization can be nice for helping with pronunciation.
