Two printers, two 1/2 years, two failures and a horrible ink service
I bought 2 of these in July 2019. One for me, one for my wife. Enrolled in instant Ink after doing the math and considering it a good value vs. buying my own ink cartridges. Problem 1. HP shipped a package of replacement ink that never arrived. Their customer service bot and an attempt with a human failed to get new ones shipped.Problem 2 – my printer’s scanner failed after 13 months of very light duty. Of course, one month after the HP warranty.Problem 3 – when I cancelled the service they billed me an extra month. I didn’t figure that out when I initially did the math. Between that and the overflow pages I hadn’t used, I basically paid for about 1,000 pages needlessly. Also, the ink cartridges they’d sent were disabled when I cancelled the subscription, so I couldn’t use them in either printer, so wasteful trash and based on my under-use of my subscription over 13 months I paid about twice what I needed to for the ink.Problem 4 – this week the second printer failed. This time, it stopped printing from the red cartridge and after an hour of diagnosing using HP’s bot the conclusion is that the print head, which is not user-replaceable, was bad. Scratch another printer, and more wasted ink when I cancelled the Instant Ink subscription for that printer.Two lessons – these printers are garbage, and the HP Instant Ink program is not a good deal. I recommend that everyone avoid both.
