Review of Chef Pro FBM108A 8-inch Tortilla and Flat Bread Maker
The Chef Pro 8-inch Tortilla Maker works as advertised (something new and different). It is so much easier than using a skillet. This earned it five stars in my book. One thing to make note of: the dough must be slightly moist and after you divide it into individual golf ball sized portions, it should sag slightly. Under these conditions, you should get perfect tortilla pancakes every time. The operation of the appliance is very simple: Plug the appliance in and turn up the heat to max; wait until the ready light comes on; place the dough ball slightly off center towards the hinged edge of the appliance; flatten the ball slightly with the palm of your hand; press down firmly on the handle for up to five seconds-you will hear a loud screeching noise (this is the sound of water vapor escaping); raise the handle; gently lower the top of the appliance without pressing; let it cook for 10 to 15 seconds depending on your likes; raise the lid and flip the pancake with a teflon spatula (do not use bare metal as it will scratch the teflon coating of the appliance); repeat the process on the second side; remove the pancake and place it on a rack or in a tortilla pancake keeper and you are ready to make the next pancake.Cleaning the appliance is a snap. Use a soft cloth so as not to scratch the teflon surface (such as a microfiber dish cloth) and wipe down the two surfaces of the appliance. I clean mine when it is still hot, but you may want to be more careful and wait until it cools down somewhat. One word of warning: When you press the ball of dough into a pancake, be careful. Your hand/arm could be splattered by very hot droplets of water if it is close to the opening between the top and bottom plates of the appliance. Once was all it took me to learn where not to place my hand.I highly recommend this appliance if you are wanting an easy and foolproof way of getting uniform tortilla pancakes every time.Dislikes? They could have added an extra two feet to the power cord which I thought was a little short. But we live in an imperfect world and that is not a good enough reason to lower my rating. I can now make perfect tortillas every time.

Chef Pro FBM108A 8-Inch Tortilla and Flat Bread Maker WORST PRODUCT EVER!
This is the worst purchase I ever made on Amazon!I read the reviews which explained how it needs to be used and watched the suggested Youtube videos. I tried it all and it DOES NOT WORK!I bought this primarily for making Indian rotis/flatbread and I must say this product is COMPLETELY USELESS!! There is no instruction booklet either to guide you on the correct heat settings for different cooking needs. Several customers have already mentioned the lack of instructions but the fact that the manufacturers have not bothered to do anything about it shows how little they care about this product anyways! I returned this piece of junk within 2 weeks after trying out all combinations of tips/instructions found on Youtube.

Just as described, perfect.
Received mine today (two days early). Made my dough recipe and realize for perfect it depends on moisture and elasticity of your dough which takes practice. But four out of six turned out perfect. That is making Poori (pillow Bread). All pressed out like tortilla perfect. But I wanted this not only for tortillas but for flatbread and chiapathis and puri/poori’s. These taste almost like sopapillas without the grease. Anyway I will continue to practice just like the youtube video advised. But so far lovin it.

Not for making rotis
I bought it to make roti (Indian version of tortilla) but was not successful.1. Made dough really soft and kept it covered for 30 minutes – This made flattening of dough easy2. Used maximum temperature – however, the temperature was not high enough to prevent my rotis from becoming chewy. Rotis never puffed as it happens on pan or gas and took lot more time to cook3. It could be good for making tortillas but not for rotisI returned it after 2-3 trials.

First Few months worked well…then stopped working
I am an Indian and we bought this product to cook tortillas fast instead hand making them. Tortillas doesn’t come out as good as hand made but if you eat them right away it works out great. We also tried cooking Parathas and they came out really good.My wife is happy with it.=====UPDATE======After using this for 2 months…the plates have gone bad. Tortillas now gets stuck on the plate after a press. We thought not having enough oil in the dough must be causing it. But we tried all options and it just now doesn’t work. So I am now changing my rating for this product.

The video review speaks truth!
Originally we had the common cast iron press to make tortillas – which were more akin to flat bread than a tortilla. I wanted to know the secrets of these mexican restraunts and why their tortillas didn’t shrink into 2 inch thick pancakes like ours. This product is the solution to the problem. Now we can enjoy actual tortillas. It took us a try or two to find the sweet spot on the heat setting. The first tortilla was a gooey mess. We turned the heat up a smidgen and started getting the same results as the video review. Also the handle on the 8 inch maker doesn’t feel as cheap as some of the 1 star reviews claim. I’m glad I didn’t listen to them.
