locano is spoken in the northern Luzon region of the Philippines, and is sometimes called the national language of the north. It is spoken by about 9 million people, including large communities of Ilocanos in Hawaii and California. Although non-Tagalog Philippine languages are often called dialects, they are actually unique languages and Ilocano is not mutually intelligible with Tagalog. The aim of this dictionary and phrasebook is to assist the student or traveler in expanding his or her knowledge of the language and culture of the Philippines. * Introduction to basic grammar * Pronunciation guide * Ilocano-English / English-Ilocano dictionary * Ilocano phrasebook

    Llocano for sure!
I bought this book for each of my boys so they can learn about their culture and the dialect their grandma spoke. It reminded me of the conversations in llocano my mom would have with family.

    ilocano or tagalog?
My wife asked me who taught me to speak ilocano? i didn’t mention it was your little book. My friend told me that i don’t need to know it but it is spoken in my wife’s region. She is happy so that i can better understand her and our family there….salamat!

Much better than my English-Tagalog book!
I practiced some words with my mom, and the accents are very accurate and helpful. I only mention it because the English-Tagalog books I have don’t include accents or markers for emphasis, and I keep pronouncing them wrong…. I am going to pencil them in my other books for proper pronunciation (not spelling).

Great, some deep Ilocano words I’ve never heard of
I needed an Ilocano dictionary because I just suck at spelling words. I admit it is unacceptable for someone who was brought up in the Philippines not learning Ilocano spelling. We just spoke Ilocano in the provinces and just did not have time learn spelling. This dictionary is pretty good. You wont find anything else that comes close to this. You have the basic Ilocano words and then they have those deep Ilocano words that I have never heard off.One thing that sets apart this dictionary is about the introduction of Ilocano. It covers Ilocano culture, grammar structure, and some sample sentences. This dictionary just needs a fancy book cover and it will sell like lumpias.

    Good book
Good book, but hard to pronounce the words when they’re not broken apart into syllables

This book is very well organised. It has “baket ko” in stitches with laughter because it is spot on with all the phrases and words from this area of the Philippines.
