Amazing way to bring documents, images, and whitboards to locked-down Enerprise PC’s
I love this device. I am a Strategy Consultant who does a lot of white boarding, business analysis, and logistics planning at a fortune 500 company. Our security environment is extremely locked down, and it’s even frowned upon to scan things at home and email attachments to yourself. This device solves SO many problems.1) It requires NO drivers and is recognized by everything (Skype, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc) as a webcam.2) I can actually use it as a webcam3) I can use it as a document scanner by setting webcam preview (from skype or other tool) to full screen and taking a screenshot with windows “Snip and clip” or “TechSmith SnagIt”.4) I can use it as a live whiteboard as I sketch things out on paper for a group session5) I can (and this is beautiful), lay a phone, tablet or convertible laptop screen under it…. and it PERFECTLY captures the screen of an external electronic device so I can get the image on my enterprise PC.6) Replaces my flatbed scanner for documents and casual photo-capture.And, it’s also well focused for 3-d items too. My peers are really blown away. And, to speak a little more about #5…. I needed a diagram (for a presentation) that was on a website blocked by our companies Proxy Server and Firewall. I simply pulled it up on an iPad 12.9, laid the ipad on my desk, and used the camera to capture a picture of the image to my “locked down Laptop’.The controls are easy to use, and you can rotate, freeze, and change orientation. It’ also makes a decent webcam if you raise the arm, and flip the camera over. I will also admit that it works WELL to take product photos for some of my vine reviews.I can’t imagine a better designed or easier to use version of this. I wasn’t expecting anything much more sophisticated than the equivalent of the overhead projector my teachers used in elementary during the 1980’s. This is really a HUGELY versitle tool.If there are drivers or software, I can’t speak to them because I am unable to install on my locked-down PC. However, the built-in (hardware) controls do everything externally… so I can’t really see a need for drivers. As far as my computer is concerned, this is just another “general webcam”… but the light control, color balance, brightness, etc…. (that I assume are built into the hardware image processing) are stellar. If you are a Business Analyst, Solution Analyst, Strategy Consultant, or anyone who needs to deal with documents and such as a remote employee on a locked-down PC… pick this up. You will NOT regret it. I’m still finding new uses for it.

Some features don’t quite reach potential
I’m a teacher of 15 years and have used AVer products for a long time in the classroom, so I was interested to see how the technology has been advancing and I’m still going to be teaching online next year, so I was excited to try this.Pros:- Form and construction. This folding camera style is far and away a huge improvement over the gooseneck on a brick we had at my old school. It takes up way less space on my desk and can be positioned more easily. I only wish I could get the camera up a little higher for larger pages.- Can just connect right to a screen for “overhead” mode. When you’re in the classroom or boardroom or whatever, you can connect right up to the screen as an HDMI input and skip the computer altogether. This is the ideal use of the memory card slot–record your live presentations when you’re connected to a projector or TV (but not a computer).- Hard keys for zoom and rotate. The autofocus hard key works great too.- Camera light. Makes a big difference to see documents better in even a normally lit space.Cons:- AVer software (AVer Touch) is still absolute garbage. So, I’ve been using my camera in tandem with Manycam. Another reviewer recommended OBS. If you don’t want to or can’t use studio software, the AVer stuff works okay, but it’s still a resource hog without much payoff.- If you’re looking for a document camera that you can use to make scanning documents easier on your computer, this isn’t it. There’s no AVer software available to do that. You can do it yourself using image software on your computer (this is easier on PC than Mac). But there are cameras out there dedicated to this purpose–this is not one of them.- There is noticeable input lag. If you’re watching the screen while writing on your document, there is a disorienting delay between your writing and it showing up on the screen. So, if you’re presenting, you’ll need to look away from your webcam and at your document (which doesn’t always look great in a presentation).- Super high def mode did not work for me on this camera (connected to M1 Mac Mini). It may have been the software–AVer Touch crashed and my camera hard reset when I tried to enable this in AVer Touch.Bottom line: For the price, you could do better and you could do worse. If you do a lot of presenting with documents (or you’re a math teacher!), this kind of tool could make a real difference for you. If you need something like this “just sometimes,” put a regular webcam on a boom arm and call it a day for a third of the price.
