    Good & Gorgeous
It is a bit expensive for a calculator BUT i love it! This more expensive one has a prettier color and has a prettier look than the cheaper ones. This one also has a rounder and smaller pen than the others. Have had it for many months and havent had to charge it once (i work inside so its not the sun recharging). But just for anyone who DOES buy this, it starts out only being able to do fraction not decimals. You have to get it to “stat” mode. Press on>mode>3. Thats what worked for me to turn it, since i need decimals for work.

Really like it, but feels cheap
The calculator works as it should but feels cheap. One thing I wish it did is fold all the way over (it opens flat but I wish I could fold the cover over to the back like a notebook)

    Great knock off calculator – BUT . . .
Okay, final verdict first: I like this calculator, but only after fighting with it.As to the quality of this build it feels cheap. Oh well, I am used to TI scientific calculators (required at Harvard). The buttons are pretty—and clear— and the shapes are okay, They WORK, but they just feel “cheesy” (sorry, but facts is facts). But does this thing do what out is supposed to?Yes, but the manual is a mess (more on that later). Okay so the display is a generous size. You have four lines of large text and a mini bar at the top that tells you what mode you are in. BUT, as you can see from the product images, this is also capable of much smaller text and graphs, displays, and whatnot. As a scientific calculator this works nicely. This is not a toy. In fact unless you NEED a scientific calculator, this will make you cry with all of its excess capabilities. The advanced functionality is really supreme. It can’t be overstated how useful this thing is for advanced calculatory work. It just “feels” cheap. but it works and that is 99% of the point, right? Here is my main complaint (please see images): The writing tablet is pressure sensitive but the manual gives you absolutely no help with this. I was about to write a scathing review but I decided to look for any indication that there was a way to fix the screen (my pictures show it how it came out of the box). Well, the LOCK button is at the top (right) of the unit. I mean “on the side” top, not on the front top. That big top round button is in fat the “erase the tablet” key, but without instructions I had thought was some form of power button. Yeah, I know, there is a button labeled “ON” but seriously, I could not get rid of that green cloud or erase what I wrote no matter what keys I pressed. So THANK YOU to the reviewer who pointed out the “LOCK” button and where it was. Now I am happy (see image). Okay, so the manual. Ugh! They printed to the edge of the page and when you try to read the pages it is annoying and damaging to the paper. Please see THAT image! So yeah, the manual is dense, has small printing, and is poorly manufactured (gotta save that money! Every cent counts towards the profit margin!). So F—- the manual! It sucks! It also has NO hELP on the writing tablet. Now, all of that aside, is it fun to have a scientific calculator that allows you to write/erase/write more (there is no “memory function” on the writing tablet) when you need to make a note or handwrite an equation? YES! Yes it is fun. And that is the ONLY reason this gets 4.5 stars instead of three. Well, that and the top row of buttons is kind of sexy — very stylish. And the stylus is a nice touch. But the writing tablet (e-ink) display is NOT VERY BRIGHT (despite what it looks like in the photos). Now, I did find out that if you press down little harder you get a thicker, brighter line, so I guess that if you had artistic abilities (which sadly I do not) you could draw a nice manga comic and take a picture of that while calculating Pi to the 17th decimal point. All in all, yeah, it works. And it comes with its own case (just close the flap) so you don’t need a separate case. Also, someone (smart) put the writing tablet on the RIGHT because if it was on the left (which would seem to make more sense), your hand would mash the buttons on the calculator — so “fine, whatever . . .” maybe 4.75 stars — but FIX THAT MANUAL (and explain how to use the writing pad!)

    It’s ok…
It is a little chinsier than I expected. It still works for what it is needed for, just very plasticky feel to it. The writing function reminds me of an etcha sketch or like the drawing toys we had as a kid. It’s a USB-C charger that it comes with as well as a stylus.

    It is fun to use!
For some reason, I believed that the writing pad on this calculator was somehow linked to the calculator and would assist me in solving the math formulas that I had written on the pad. However, I was mistaken.Anyways, the writing pad is fun to use, works very well, it is pressure-sensitive, and has no LED or other type of backlighting; it operates independently of the calculator, and it is only a single-page pad with no memory to store multiple pages, just one page only. Additionally, it comes with its own stylus pen, a dedicated round button to clear the display, and a lock switch on the top to prevent accidental erasure of the pad.The calculator is on par with other scientific calculators that I have. However, this one is also solar and USB-C rechargeable, with about 552 math functions, a beautiful six-line high-definition LCD display screen, and a hard outer shell.PROS:- The calculator features a beautiful six-line high-definition LED screen display.- It is solar, USB-C rechargeable; and one full charge lasts for a very long time.- It features a small red light that indicates charging, which changes to green when fully charged.- The contents of the writing pad remain on the pad until they are manually cleared.- The pad features a dedicated lock button on the top to prevent accidental erasure.- The stylus for the pad is stored in the left side of the calculator, and it is not in the way.CONS:- The calculator has no backlighting that I can find for its display, keypad, or writing pad.- The pad has only one page with no memory to store multiple pages.- The calculator performs well with simple formulas, but it is a little bit slow when processing complex ones.OVERALL:I am very fond of this calculator and its writing pad, and I believe it would make a wonderful gift for yourself or a friend.

First off, this calculator has way more features than I’ll ever use or need, or be able to truthfully review. Sadly, my days of studying have long since gone, and I’m not a scientist or mathematician. But if you’re going to get a calculator you might as well get one that does just about everything. Just in case…So far I’ve used it only for the basic calculate functions. If or when I do need to do something a little more complex then I’ll definitely need to revisit the 44 pages of instructions. And doing the basics it has worked perfectly. The fact it’s rechargeable, and also solar powered, is great – there’s no replacing batteries or finding that they’ve leaked and caused corrosion after being left unused for a while.I’ve found the notepad extremely useful. I thought it might be a little gimmicky, but it’s proved super useful for jotting down calculations and measurements whilst carrying out odd jobs. I will point out that the notepad doesn’t quite have the contrast shown in the pictures, and it needs good lighting to be easily readable. The notepad also provides a snap shut case to cover the buttons and calculator screen. A magnetic closure ensures it doesn’t accidentally open.A couple of slight criticisms are perhaps the feel of the buttons and the quality of the plastic. Both feel a little cheap and brittle. If this calculator was slung in a school bag and not treated with care I suspect it may not last too long. If it’s treated well I think it will serve for years.

NEWYES NY-991EX Scientific CalculatorThe NEWYES 991EX comes packed in a very substantial card case which, in turn, is inside a printed card sleeve. Included are a USB-C charging cable and a very good user guide. Charging the device is by the USB-C cable from any standard USB charger, battery charge is helped by the solar panel. The NEWYES 991EX appears well made, it has a sturdy feeling case with an LCD writing screen inside the right-hand opening lid. The keyboard has a simulated carbon fibre surround with clear to read buttons that have a nice positive feel when pressed. The top part of the fascia has a solar charging panel, a reset button for the LCD screen and below is the large, 6 line display screen. The stylus for the LCD screen is housed in its own slot at the bottom left of the case. The NEWYES 991EX is very capable with modes that cover all from a simple to a full feature scientific calculator. The LCD screen is a very useful addition that lets you jot down notes and drawings as you go and is cleared quickly by pressing the button. Very thoughtfully, the included defeat switch for the LCD panel can prevent accidentally erasing its contents. At £32.99 the NEWYES 991EX compares well to other premium quality scientific calculators.

I know we all have calculators on our phones but this dedicated scientific calculator is designed for serious scientists, engineers and mathematicians. I would say it was good for A Level students and upwards – it is not a child’s calculator. That would not only be a waste, it might confuse them. It is a decent size and needs to be because it has all the serious buttons. They press down in a satisfying way. – it can be very frustrating to be doing a complicated calculation and have buttons that are too sensitive or not sensitive enough. The use of the cover as a digital pad is a potentially useful addition. My clever nephew has been trying it out for me and gives it the thumbs up.

Love this calculator; so smart and shiny on the inside. Admittedly I don’t remember what I used a scientific calculator for at school, but they are super handy, easy to use and turn on and off. The rechargeable function is great. I particularly love the writing pad on the side, great for my bookkeeping course learning.

Reminds me of my old Casio! -Easy to use – once you read the instructions! Function buttons are comfortable and reactive.Great looking off black/slate colour with colourful button display.Very dextrous – feels substantial and quality. Solar power and rechargeable options.Notepad and stylus function works a dream- stylus is handy and can be slotted away and it folds perfectly – can be locked.Excellent performing calculator/ note pad from basic functions to highly complicated work. Easy to read, quality displays, particularly the Note writer. As I said, it reminds me of my old Casio – but to be honest not quite as good, saying that this is an excellent scientific calculator and does exactly what it claims to do and does it well!
