The Joy of Learning to Speak Spanish
In this handy and easy to read book Spanish language Professor Julián Guzman tries to teach the reader or student an easy way to get acquainted with the Spanish language.Guzman who was born in Barcelona, as he points out in his introduction, have always been fascinated by the Spanish language and the wide variations of the way in which it’s used in different countries.According to Professor Guzman the best way to help a beginner to start to get to grips with the language is to use flash cards. Flash cards are easy to use and much easier to memorize thus providing the student with an excellent weapon in his battle to master a new language.I have gone through the flash cards provided in this volume and found them to say the least, extremely useful. All of a sudden a lot of the words that I’ve heard in movies or read in books, or which I half-heartedly learned during my brief visit to Spain many years ago came vividly back to life. The author puts a lot of emphasis on the pronunciation of the words, something that brings to light the poetry of the Spanish language. Words like hermosa, pleno, semejante, verdadera, caballo, corazón, memoria and función, come floating like streams out of one’s mouth, making him feel somewhat lucky for being able the speak such a beautiful language.I think that any beginner to the language should try to get hold of this book because it could make his life much easier. Dictionaries are good, but as I myself have now come to realize, as a person who’s not so good at foreign languages, flash cards are much better, since they do not only help you memorize the words but also provide an excellent service when it comes to enriching your learning abilities.Who said that learning a foreign language cannot only be time consuming but also boring? Whoever that was, he was obviously wrong. Professor Guzman with this slim, yet rich in content volume, proves that learning can be interesting and fun. One wouldn’t have to be a student to buy this book; he could be simply anyone; a traveler to Spanish speaking countries, someone who wants to surprise some friends by learning to speak some words in their mother tongue, or even someone who employs foreigners who mostly or only talk in Spanish. This book could be used as a tool and as a stepping stone for people who are interested in expanding their knowledge and their learning abilities.I highly recommend it to everyone that belongs to any of the aforementioned groups of people.

Very Useful Tool Which can be Reused Repeatedly
Well worth the price. It starts with a quick summation of pronunciation, followed by a glossary divided by word type. I was disappointed thinking this was the flash cards. But eventually you get there. My only wish is they had done them both ways. I wanted to read the English and state the Spanish translation. Why not both ways? But, if you are learning the language, this is a great quick practice on a plane that you can refer back to repeatedly and quickly. I finished in one quick plane ride and will now refer back on other plane rides. One of the many tools to use to learn languages particularly in Kindle. I like it.

The perfect companion for a journey
Learning languages has always been my passion, but the lack of time and money never allowed me the luxury to study as much as I wanted. Sometimes life is unfair, especially when it doesn’t allow you to follow your dreams; but sometimes it also saves the best for last. And that’s exactly what happened to me.An early retirement and some plans for traveling that me and my also retired husband made, gave me the opportunity to bring to life, with a few decades delay, my dream. We were planning to travel to Mexico, and even though the Spanish language there is a little bit different from Spain itself, the basic words and phrases, as I came to understand, are about the same. But how should I start learning? I knew a few words, but surely they wouldn’t be enough to offer much help on our journey. I had no choice but to look for a book, and that’s exactly how I ended up with the one at hand. It promised a lot, but would it deliver? That question never left my mind until I finally hit the Buy button and it appeared on my screen.I was pleasantly surprised by its simplicity and with the way Professor Guzman treats his subject. I felt as if he wrote this book especially for me, explaining in detail what I should do, how I should do it, how to ask questions and how to respond to them. In the end this guide proved itself to be the perfect companion for us on our journey.

could be good….
I tried to find a link to contact the author because it looks like this could be a very good book, and I haven’t gotten far, but there are errors near the beginning that maybe he could correct in the Kindle version (I don’t know if it’s from a problem in the to-Kindle conversion or also in the book).I started reading through the adjectives at the beginning of the book, and found lots of instances where the pronunciations were for masculine & feminine forms, but the forms themselves were both written the same (in the masculine form). Examples: (sorry, I don’t have Spanish accents handy) autentico, autentico [ah-oo-ten’-te-co, ah-oo-ten’-te-cah], enfermo, completo, concreto, definitivo, directo, distinto, duro, extrano, extremo, historico, junto, justo, lento, menudo, mismo, perfecto, pleno, politico, practicoI think the phonetic pronunciation is a great idea – I would change the Spanish “i” phonetic, as in autentico, to “ee” instead of “e” – an example is in autentico – “te” would be pronounced with an English short e (as in “telephone”) instead of the English long e. “tee” would represent the long “e” sound heard in the Spanish “i”.I would love to talk to the author if he’s interested….

this is not as good as i would of liked. The fact that there are 1001 words makes the task a bit daunting. Also the flashcards don’t start until the middle of the book which means if you order the sample you won’t see the fashcards. I am currently working on hebrew flashcards but perhaps in the future i will study these.

Not Flash Cards – just lists of Spanish words with pronunciation guides?I was expecting something different.
