It works great… no frills printing, scanning, and copying. Here’s the trick…
I needed a printer for the odd occasional use for a MacBook. I had an old envy 4500 that was about 10 years old that finally tanked. I read the reviews here and at first I was concerned but I decided to go for it because the other printers were way too much for the few print jobs I need to do.The printer was easy to set up, remove the packaging materials and turn it on. (I tend to not print out the alignment sheet because it burns through the color ink). The printer has a cycling glowing purple light and it sleeps in a low blue light with a green light on the side. I just turn the printer off when not in use. It has a button for color copies and a button for black and white copies. A cancel button, and an info button–no display, it’s very basic.I purchased a USB printer cable also on Amazon and plugged the printer into my Mac (should work with Windows too). Note, once you plug into the printer cable, it seems that connecting to WiFi is disabled. From there, you can get to the printer’s web page which lets you play with all the settings. I turned on web print and disabled blue tooth (which I believe is used by the HP app that I didn’t install). That’s it. I can still print remotely to the printer from the sofa via web print, or print directly from my plugged in Mac.I didn’t install any apps, I didn’t get the printer on WiFI to get it talking to HP, and I didn’t subscriber to any ink subscription service.Super easy. I hope this is useful for someone to make an informed decision for their printing needs.I would recommend to a friend and I would purchase this again.

Worst. Printer. Ever
After carefully reviewing all the options on printers, I chose this one for its features and size. After 7 days (exactly), the printer started throwing an error that the ink cartridges that came with it were incompatible. This because I declined the ‘HP Instant Ink’ program. The lo-jack to monitor your ink and paper usage so they can continue to market to you rather than just buying new ink cartridges when you need them. Anyway – the factory installed cartridges are Instant Ink cartridges and whether they are empty or not, apparently after 7 days they stop working. So I had two options. Sign up for HP Instant Ink or buy ‘regular’ ink cartridges. I decided to play the HP Instant Ink game and followed the instructions to set that up. But the printer refused to print the required sheet with the code on it and after 45 minutes of restarts and frustration, I got on chat with HP, an enormous time waster. It took more than 2 hours to troubleshoot the machine, with 4-5 minute response time to every response I provided. Things like ‘unplug it, wait 15 seconds and plug it back in’. So that takes approximately 30 seconds. 5 minutes later, I got my next instruction. After painfully sitting through this cycle with ‘Mike’, the machine started throwing a ‘carriage stall’ error. Eventually, after more groundbreaking solutions like ‘turn it off and back on’ and ‘take the cardboard out of the carriage stall area’ (yeah, on a printer I used without trouble for 7 days – THERE IS NO CARDBOARD IN IT), Mike deemed the machine unrepairable and offered to send a new one. I opted for this over sending it back to Amazon because I had already thrown away the packaging. So 6 days later the new printer comes. I have SOMEHOW signed up for Instant Ink with the original, now on its way back to HP, so I followed the install instructions very carefully, to make sure everything was coordinated. Seemed to work fine. At first. The printer has worked for about 4 days now. And several times a day, the HP ‘Smart’ App (which if I’m being honest is really not an appropriate name) tells me the printer is offline, or status unavailable, requiring a restart every time I go to use it. My computer hasn’t gone to sleep, I’m actively using it, and the printer is ‘offline’. Jobs stay in the print queue, stalled forever, until I unplug the printer – since there doesn’t seem to be an actual power button.I refuse to call HP back again, because I don’t have another 3 hours to waste for 5 minutes worth of guidance. At this point, I’m ready to send this thing back to HP and buy a Canon. But I’m without packaging and now the Instant Ink people have allegedly sent my first approved printer cartridge set. I’m in too deep. The print quality is fine. But that’s pretty useless when it won’t stay connected. I’ve tried to use the HP Smart App from my phone and more than 50% of the time I get a ‘printer blocked’ message.Seriously the worst printer I’ve ever had.

Good little printer for the price
While I had a frustrating time with setup, it turns out to be a really good printer for the price. My setup issues were caused by defective color ink. Once I contacted HP after days of going through all the steps to correct the issue, they sent a new ink supply which worked just fine. It is fairly fast, the automatic double-sided feed is good, and I’ve had no problems with wireless connectivity. Loading the ink cartridges is easy and quick. no reaching into tight spaces.

Fast install, sleek, small footprint in my home office
I wrote the first review (see below) on Feb 2023 but I guess I forgot to post it (I was waiting for a picture to go with it).Fast forward Nov 2023 today. It’s been a few weeks I CANNOT print any jobs . I kept thinking someone in the family have “messed” with my printer.NO! It took me a long time to find out because HP shut down my ability to print because the “trial subscription “ ended !Manipulative, exploitative, deceiving !!!! I bought this for a small home office. They are forcing me to commit to a x number of pages per month and god forbid if I forgot and over print by x number of pages, they will charge me overages ?!!!!Where was that mentioned when I was reading about the printer and shopping this model? This is absolutely immoral – they are taking advantage of consumers ignorance and ofc by the time I find out now 9 months later (they obviously timed this perfectly with the 2 pc of free ink etc ) I can’t return this garbage that don’t print anymore!*****************************************Took less than 30 min to install. Adding the app on iPhone was a breeze. Looking forward to this sleek machine churning out print outs for my home office.I shopped pretty hard for a good value printer -had initially looked at the Hp 3755, 4755 but they all have no dual print function, which I like because it cuts down paper and bulk.Research shows this one is not the best value for long term ownership as the ink is costly but my next option is a big fat triple layer Brother which will also be in the mid $100s range. I bought a 4 year assurance warranty so hopefully if it don’t last that long, at least I’m covered.

We love this printer. Very easy to use and the copies are very crisp and clear. The scanner also works very well.

I finally had to buy a new printer because my trusty old HP printer (over 11 years of use!) finally started having issues. After much research and wading through several bad reviews on every printer I looked at, I decided to go with this one and crossed my fingers that it would be a good experience.Everything started out fine, going through the process, but when it reached the step to connect to my wifi, it just would not, no matter what I tried, no matter what device I tried it on. I’m not new to technology and this type of thing should have been an easy process for me. Instead it was 6 hours of nothing working and complete frustration! Finally, I decided to just connect it with USB (USB cord doesn’t come with the printer btw), grabbed the USB cord from my old printer and gave it a go. After another hour of downloading the driver from HP’s website, and going through the lengthy installation, and it was connected via USB. Yay, time to print right? THINK AGAIN.When I put the ink cartridges in, I instantly got an error message stating that the color cartridge was not communicating with the printer and no matter what I did, it would not work. I read page after page of other similar issues (many of those to be found with this printer!!) and finally realized that my brand new cartridge or the cartridge compartment in the brand new printer was defective. Seriously!? So I ordered another ink cartridge from HP for $25 to see if it would work in the ink compartment. With time constraints on needing a working printer ASAP, I then decided to just send the defective printer back and have it replaced with the same model replacement. I was actually still hopeful I could make it work. Thankfully, I read the reviews on the actual ink cartridges for this printer and found out that they run out after 30 to 40 pages, though stating they will print 100 pages (still too low anyway). Since I can’t connect to the subscription program through HP, and receive ink monthly, and would need to order my cartridges on an as needed basis, this was the straw that broke the camel’s back.I ordered a completely different printer that hopefully will suit my printing needs better and will not arrive defective and unable to connect wirelessly!Would NEVER recommend this printer. Its too costly on ink and not user friendly at all. Don’t bother, trust me. Horrible experience.
It is lovely! Assembly was a piece of cake –
Great price and the printer hooked up in 5 minutes. Great quality and print speed

The app didnt fully complete this printers setup, but somehow the printer is connected to my wifi so it works. You dont need the useless app to print from your phone. The printer just needs to be connected to your wifi, and your phone to your wifi, and itll print. No bluetooth no location. I uninstalled the app. I like it for that reason very seamless. Looks nice on table very minimal cool lighting

I am not a computer person. I am a retired senior who finds this sort of thing to be extremely frustrating. Although I try, I have to go somewhere else to have somebody else put it together for me. Life is just too short to live with that level of frustration.I was able to put together this printer together on my own, which is shocking! It was so easy. It came with a very easy to read booklet of instructions that tell you exactly what to do. This booklet also show you what the codes mean when it’s having an issue. That way you don’t have to guess, which in my mind is a really good thing. What I was most surprised about, was the way that it is put together. It’s built unlike any other printer I’ve ever seen, but it seems to work really well. Ie, the paper is fed from a drawer inside of the printer. You basically have to lift up the whole printer itself to get at the paper or envelope drawer. It’s curious, but it works amazingly well! I also didn’t realize that it hasn’t extra bit of warranty which is a treat as well! Extra bonus! I have only had it for a few days and have not had an opportunity to try out it’s other features but for me, given the cost, this HP printer is one of the best.
