It works. Apparently there is a difference in cable performance.
I purchased this optical digital cable to replace another cable of the same type but different brand that did not work for my application. This one does work. Specifically: this is an optical cable for digital audio with a standard square type TOSLINK connector on one side (which I plug into the audio optical out of my TV set) and a mini-optical connector on the other end (the same size as a mini analogue audio plug), which I plug into the optical input of my Bluesound Vault II streamer. The Blue sound provides the option to set it up so that the Bluesound always defaults to the optical source if there is an optical source present. In other words, I can listen to music output from the Bluesound (like streaming Tidal), but when my significant other turns on the TV, the Bluesound will automatically default to the TV audio. That’s very convenient as it means my significant other doesn’t have to get down on hands and knees and change inputs to the Bluesound. I configured my system this way using a different optical cable and it worked correctly only sporatically. As a last resort I decided to try a different cable and ordered this cable as a replacement. Once installed, it works as I’d hoped. So, I’m pleased.

Great for echo studio
I was looking for a cable to connect a cd player to an echo studio. This works great. Good quality and the sound is great.

Rugged but doesn’t work for everything
It did not work with a set of Creative T100 speakers I had. It worked with an old soundbar but not with my new speakers. I almost sent them back figuring they were DOA. I then tried one of those thin, fragile optical cables and it worked great with the T100’s and the sound bar. I have no idea why they wouldn’t work with the speakers. It plugged in fine and snug.
