great phone and a pretty great price
This is a review of the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G smartphone, locked to Tracfone. Why did I get a new cellphone? The one I had been using, a Samsung Galaxy A20, worked perfectly well. But I had had it for 3 years and, well, you know, I got the itch. Also, I was aware of some limitations of the A20. It was starting to feel slow. Sometimes I ran out of memory. The camera was so-so. The screen was hard to read outdoors. And I couldn’t get further Android upgrades. Now, I should describe my usage style. I almost never use mobile data, so mobile speed is a low priority. Most of the time I’m within reach of WiFi. I don’t make or receive many calls or texts. I also don’t take many pictures or videos. I don’t use social media. One thing I have done is put over 300 CDs on a micro SD card.To scratch my itch, I started looking for a modestly priced replacement. To me, modestly priced meant under $200. I was able to buy my Tracfone-locked A54 on Amazon for $200 during a price dip.Feature-wise, I wanted a few things relative to the A20:- a newer Android version and the ability to get further upgrades- a faster processor- more memory- better cameras- 5G capability- a brighter AMOLED screen- a micro SD slotThe A54 ticked all the boxes. It has noticably snappier performance than the A20. The screen is brighter, and I can read it even in bright sunlight. Since I bought the A54 in March, the software has already upgraded to Android 14, One UI 6.1. The photos are better, with more detail and dynamic range. The fingerprint reader on the front works very well. (I don’t use face recognition.) The battery easily lasts a couple of days.Transferring everything from my A20 to my new A54 was easy with Samsung Smartswitch.Negatives:- it’s slightly bigger and slightly heavier than the A20.- I really wish the power button was on a different edge from the volume buttons. I often find myself hitting the wrong button, like volume-down when I want to turn off the screen, or power when I want to change the volume.I am really happy with the Samsung A54, and it is noticably better than the A20. I definitely recommend it.

    Great No Frills Phone
The phone does everything I need it to do, and seems very durable for a smartphone without a metal midframe. The only time i have noticed it get slow or laggy was right after rebooting to apply an update. While it is finishing up for ~30 seconds or so it can be noticeably slow. The screen is great, and my favorite feature is the underscreen fingerprint reader. The battery life is reasonable, but not spectacular. I can get 2 days of normal use or ~1 day of heavy used on a single charge of the battery. The biggest down sides is the lack of wireless charging, the non-metal midframe, and visual voicemail does not seem to be working correctly.

Great performance! Tracfone has come a long way.
I bought two of these for my parents. Transferring service/data/apps from their old tracfone phones was a BREEZE. Got them up and running within an hour. They are extremely happy with the display quality and how quick and snappy the software is. Such a huge updrade over old tracfone phones from 4-5 years ago. Even I’m really impressed with it, and I use a Pixel 8. They basically perform the same minus a few bells and whistles. Highly recommended for anyone!!!

A great phone with a great camera.
When I first got this telephone, I was very pleased at how easy it was to transfer everything from my old phone to my new phone, just by setting them next to each other. My Bliss and satisfaction were interrupted when I found that for some reason I couldn’t attach and send pictures, emojis Etc with text messages. I chatted with Samsung, they were very helpful and told me that it was something I would check with the carrier about. But before I had a chance to do that, somehow the problem resolved itself and everything started to work. One I hope helpful hint to anyone who can’t stop the Voice from reciting your dictated texts as you try to compose one, the little man in the bottom right hand corner of your screen will turn the voice off! There are no instructions to tell you about many things like that that could interfere with your enjoyment of this telephone. But it’s a great telephone, and the camera is astounding. I’m going to really enjoy this camera on my vacation. I highly recommend it.

This is NOT THE SAME PHONE!!
I owned an A54 before it broke, I replaced it with the A54 I bought here. Is not the A54. It only has 2 pages apps that I HAD TO DOWNLOAD. It’s slow, and it has only 3 cameras vs the 5 cameras on my other!! Are they just putting operating systems the same?? THE PHONE IS NOT THE A54!!!!Is this just an updated refurbished phone!!! The box was open and now my screen starts pixalating and static, its ONLY. 31 DAYS OLD!!!

It’s as expected, runs well but has some minor downsides
I upgraded from a Moto G Power 2021 to this. I actually feel like this is slightly faster but not a whole lot. The battery drains sorta fast so plug in when using. I guess this is common with most mid tier phones but I had youtube and/or programs up for 3 hours and it sapped around 50-55% of battery or 40% when plugged into car.The other thing is I wish Tracfone would not put so much built in programs on the phone, be it games or other apps. I deleted 20 apps just because of the clutter. Then when the updates began, I deleted another 5-7, although the updates were from the UI. But combination it took me 3 hours to get it where I want it.Now, once all that’s done, I feel like it’s a very functional phone, looks nice, and you can get it to a place where it’s neat and works very well. But I feel like the biggest downside is the energy drain, Tracfone’s built in clutter that takes time to remove.I would surely recommend for the price, but at the same time, for $200 more maybe another phone would be faster and have other perks I don’t know. But yes this is a very functional decent phone so I’d reccomend.
