Fun and unique
I have to admit I giggled when this popped up in my recommendations. The algorithm spies know I am a sucker for bread baking things and vintage or pioneer style bits and bops. Of course I had to try out this totally not needed curiosity.My husband and kids truly are bread knife challenged. I have gotten them an electric knife, a bread slicer guide and they can’t even make those work. Lol. They just can’t fathom the back and forth sawing motion of a serrated edge. Just push down and smash it.My primary breads I make are soft sandwich, burger buns, and French loaves. Crusty boules are just occasional treats. So those ard my priority cutting want. I first put a hamburger bun through this slicer. Mind you, I cut the bun into thirds. I ended up with a perfect big mac style bun. So the soft bread worked well.I whipped up a crispy soda bread with a crunchy sugary top. Not a crusty sourdough but definitely a challenging cut for the impatient. While it went through the crust and made a straight clean cut, the longer slice falls sideways as it slices and leans towards the handle. The arm of the crank hit the slice repeatedly and caused a lot of damage to the slice. Solution: cardboard bread guide to prevent the slice from leaning as it was cut. A longer crank shaft would be helpful.Of course there are crumbs. I challenge you to cut a slice of bread without making crumbs. Especially crusty loaves.Nevertheless, I am really enjoying this slicer. Hubby can cut a straight slice. The teenagers don’t squish the fresh bread.This would be fun to have out on the counter next to a charcuterie with an assortment of fresh breads when entertaining. It is useful, intriguing, and aesthetically pleasing.I have not seen replacement blades available anywhere though. That would be nice to have.I have not tried other similar items to compare and contrast, but this one seems to work fine.I like it. Good call, algorithm spies. Good call.

Well made, takes a bit of practice
It’s a great looking item, and very solid.As far as functions go, I am in two minds about it.I like the weight of the slicer and suction cups on the bottom for easy slicing.I bake sourdough bread and was hoping to slice them with it, sometimes it takes long time to start the slicing action,the blade slips and don’t bite into the crust easily. And as other reviewer mentioned, as the bread is being sliced, it getsstuck on the side of the blade holder so I have to guide it away from the unit.Once I get a hang of it, it works okay for me.

Super dull blade that tears (not cuts) bread. Not recommended.
I ordered this one and the name brand Zassenhaus, mostly to see if the name brand was worth the extra $$. It was. There is a world of difference between the two. This one has a super dull blade that does not cut bread. Rather it tears bread and is frustrating to use. The width gauge on the platform is a plastic sticker that started peeling up almost immediately. The whole setup wiggles a little bit, too, whereas the name brand is tight, precise, and a much better product. I returned this one and kept the name brand despite the higher price.

Great for Home Made Breads
I love baking homemade bread, but I hate having to slice it because the slices never come out even, and it collapses the bread. This is perfect for that. It works in a very similar way to a deli meat slicer, You have to hand crank the the rotary blade as you are guiding the bread with your other hand, so that makes it a bit unwieldy to operate, but if you have someone that turns the crank for you, it makes it so easy to slice your bread into different width slices. It slices evenly, it leaves a very fine crumb, and the slicing width is adjustable so you can get the perfect size slice for whatever you need. For sandwiches, you want it to be a bit thicker. For toast, I find it works better with a little bit of a thinner slice. This has suction cups that help it stay put as you are using it, and the blade is super sharp. It is moderately protected, though, so you will want to be careful, and if you are helping your kids use it, make sure they know to keep their fingers out of the blade path.

Not bad but not great
Got this bread slicer to help me slice my bread evenly. When I took it out of the box it looks great. It is really a good looking piece of equipment. I had just baked a loaf of bread the day before. So the bread I sliced was completely cooled and had been sitting in the bread bag for 24 hours. At first trying to gauge the sizing guard was a little tricky. Too thin at first, too thick afterwards. After about 6 or 7 slices, I figured out the right position for the thickness we wanted for sandwiches. It’s not difficult to use. The machine has suction cups at the bottom so whatever surface you put it on it sticks and holds in place. You just have to figure out your hand position, one on the turning wheel and one holding your bread, turn the wheel and push your bread through. First try with this bread slicer I used sandwich bread. Very soft loaf, soft crust. So the slicer tore the bread. I sped up the turning of the wheel that seemed to help a bit, but it still tore the bread. Only reasoning I can come up with is the blade is not sharp enough to slice through soft bread or the slicer only meant for harder loafs.

I am excited to use this manual bread slicer when I finally get around to making sourdough! The blade is super sharp, which is always a plus, and I appreciate that it came fully assembled—no hassle there. However, I did have an issue with the platform arriving with marks. It doesn’t affect functionality, so I kept it, but I was a bit disappointed in the presentation. Storage is something I still need to figure out, but overall, this is a great addition to my kitchen and will make slicing homemade bread so much easier.
